Engines and Innovation appeared at the time of the 15th anniversary of the Lewis Research Center, which dates from January 23, 1941, when George W. Lewis, Director of Aeronautical Research for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics broke ground for the facility outside Cleveland, Ohio. An institutional history, it emphasizes the efforts of the center to develop technology in air and space propulsion, especially the jet engine.

“[The author] succeeds admirably in a well-written book which captures the essence of technology transfer in the NACA and NASA eras.”
